Excitement

Yeah, so I haven't posted for a while.  This is because nothing has happened (this isn't strictly true, either in the local sense (there's a trip to Herefordshire, the ISA debacle and IPSWICH ) or the global sense (impending nuclear war).  However, we now have some real action on (in?) Old Market Square.

Kate has got a slow cooker, which she is in love with.  I'll let her wax lyrical about this in her own time.  Suffice to say the soup was lovely.

We have got a new Iron and Ironing Board Cover which I am in love with.  The sheer pleasure of the glide is indescribable.  It takes half the time to iron a shirt and the creases are twice as sharp.  Can't think of the last consumer purchase that's made me so happy.

Don't ask me to do your ironing.  But you are welcome to come over and iron chez nous.

Oh, and The Crown and Shuttle has re-opened, and is great.  Lots of real ale, some gravity fed.  6 weeks ago it was a shell, now it's a great pub.

James, here is a quick slow cooker recipe for Kate - you could easily substitute chickpeas for the chicken as I'm not sure what you are eating these days:
1 teaspoon each: ground cumin, paprika, turmeric, ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon: ground cinnamon
1 diced onion
2-3 cloves minced garlic
the rinsed rind of 1 preserved lemon, diced
a handful of raisins
a handful of green olives (no pits)
1/2 cup chicken broth
Put this all in the slow cooker and top it with:
1-1.5 lbs (how many kg?) chicken thighs
add a bit of salt and pepper to season the chicken
cook on low for 6-8 hours or so until the chicken is done.

We served it with couscous and spiced kumquats and a little cilantro and parsley just tonight. Kind of like traveling to Morocco.

Glad to hear about your new iron. I still refuse to iron!
